ACE – Mexico air cargo: bribery, defects, delays

MEXICO’S new US$13bn airport will suffer from the same air cargo bottlenecks and defects that are currently plaguing the city’s overloaded Benito Juárez international terminal, a new damning report warns, writes Thelma Etim.

The overstretched airport, which handles more than 50 per cent of the nation’s airfreight, is regularly saturated with goods waiting for export because of insufficient operating hours and demand that exceeds capacity at the cargo scanning facilities, according to logistics companies interviewed for a World Economic Forum (WEF) study.
